Mathieu Debuchy still has an Arsenal contract until June 2019, but his value has plummeted over the past year or so due to being well out of the picture at the club and having some injury issues.

Arsene Wenger may well feel that what Arsenal could get for Debuchy at the moment isn’t worth it, and so the better plan would be to keep the player as cover, or loan him out in the hope he can remain fit and increase his value.

Loaning Debuchy out for the second half of the season would see him return still with 2 years left on his contract, and Arsenal would be in a good position to sell if the loan had been successful.

Screen Shot 2017-01-06 at 08.20.46L’Equipe report on Friday that there’s a 75% chance of Debuchy getting a move in the January window. The player himself is stated as preferring a permanent transfer but he’d have to find a club offering a good deal for Arsenal.

The French newspaper believe this is a situation that ‘should be settled in the second half of January’.
