Leicester City scouts were spotted once again in Portugal, this time watching the Champions League clash between Benfica and CSKA.
The scouting list comes from O Jogo, who report there were a few English clubs watching the game. But they don’t know who Craig Shakespeare’s side were keeping an eye on.
This is not the first time the Foxes have scouted Benfica this season, as they were present for the league match against Rio Ave as well. That was on August 26th, so Leicester have followed it up quickly, indicating there’s some sort of interest.
Despite scoring first, Benfica lost the game 2-1, a surprising result. Bruno Varela, Alex Grimaldo and Andrija Živković were solid for the home side, but CSKA’s comeback had much to do with good performances from Viktor Vasin, Pontus Wernbloom, Vitinho and Timur Zhamaletdinov.
It’s worth mentioning that last night, Gabriel Barbosa made his Champions League debut. He’s joined Benfica on a loan deal from Inter Milan, and in the summer 2016 window, when he was moving from Brazil to Italy, Leicester were keen.
The player’s agent confirmed a €27m offer from Leicester City for the player, better known as Gabigol.
Could the striker still be on their list? After a disappointing season at Italy, maybe the Foxes could be thinking long term in case Benfica choose not to sign him at the end of the season.
