It’s not a secret that Serie A side Juventus are working on landing Benedikt Howedes from Schalke 04.
The situation was confirmed by club director Beppe Marotta today, as he spoke to the local press before the game against Genoa. Italian newspaper Tuttosport also had an update on the chase on Saturday, saying there would be a new round of talks for the defender to join the Old Lady on a loan deal.
But despite all the confidence the club will be able to land Howedes, it seems Juve are still expecting some late competition from the Premier League. Liverpool have been repeatedly linked over the past week, and now Leicester City are also being brought into the story.
Tuttosport claims Leicester City and Liverpool presence in the race must be considered seriously, although Marotta is confident the player wants to join Juventus.
Gazzetta Dello Sport on Saturday claimed that Schalke ‘hope to’ sell Howedes to Liverpool for around €20m before the transfer window closes.
Juventus are likely to offer less than either Leicester City or Liverpool would if the English clubs are genuinely interested. Then there’s playing time, and Howedes would almost certainly be considered more important at both Leicester and Liverpool than at Juventus.
