Dutch legend Marco van Basten has doubled down on his warning to midfielder Ryan Gravenberch over a potential move to Liverpool.

Van Basten was on Ziggo Sport last night to cover Bayern Munich’ game against Manchester City in the Champions League, when the subject of Gravenberch’s future was brought up according to Voetbal Primeur.

Gravenberch has struggled for gametime at the Allianz Arena this season following a move from Ajax in the summer, failing to impress Julian Nagelsmann or Thomas Tuchel.

It’s led to speculation about a potential move away, with numerous reports putting Liverpool among his suitors as they plan to overhaul their midfield this summer.

They’re believed to be pushing for Gravenberch as an alternative to Jude Bellingham, who they have reportedly given up on signing as his price tag continues to rise.

Van Basten isn’t convinced the move to Liverpool would make sense for Gravenberch, though, insisting earlier this week that the Reds are too big for him.

He’s now doubled down on those comments, insisting the player would face the same issues he’s had at Bayern.

“You just have to be sure that you are always in the base,” he said.

“Otherwise, it is far too little to make such a choice. You really have to be able to give that club something even if you sign, have added value.

“Gravenberch but also Noussair Mazraoui do not have that at the moment, so then you are just a competitor and that turns out wrong.

“[Moving to Liverpool] That is asking for the same problems. Go somewhere where you play. If you are not of added value or if you have doubts, then you should not go. Money should not be an issue for these types of guys.”
