Leeds United star Pontus Jansson has revealed he will remain patient trying to get regular games for Sweden. The 25-year-old was part of Sweden’s Euro 2016 squad, but he didn’t get any minutes whilst in France, and this has continued under the new coach Janne Andersson.
The Leeds United defender said when he does get a chance he will look to take it, and jokingly hopes Sweden captain Andreas Granqvist retires soon. Jansson went on to say he just wants to impress for his country, and has faith in the coach’s decisions.
“I am 25 years old, I have a place in the squad and I’m an important part of the group. When I get the chance on the field, I will take it. Granqvist surely can’t hold on forever. I’ll just wait until he puts his boots on the shelf. No, but … I just want it to go well for Sweden. It is clear that I want to play, but I trust that Janne will take the right decision,” said Jansson.
Despite Jansson’s lack of games for Sweden he has become a key player for Leeds United since his arrival in the summer. The Swede has formed a solid partnership with Kyle Bartley, and on current form the Championship side look a good bet for one of the play off places.
