Lazio are considering turning Wesley Hoedt’s loan deal from Southampton into a permanent one after the defender’s impressive performances for the Serie A side.
Hoedt returned to his former club, who he played for for two years before joining Southampton in 2017, on loan in the summer after falling out of favour.
He’s featured regularly for Simone Inzaghi’s side since, making ten appearances in all competitions and starting four of their five Champions League games so far.
His loan deal includes a purchase option at the end of it, and according to La Lazio Siamo Noi, Lazio are considering activating it.
They say that Hoedt is ‘convincing everyone’ at the Serie A club and ‘giving important answers’ to any questions asked of him.
He’s now established himself as first-choice in defence and ‘showing concreteness and humility’ in his performances.
Lazio are convinced by him and can ‘take advantage’ of the €5m purchase option they agreed with Southampton in the summer.
Indeed, it’s believed they could do that as early as January, with Southampton waiting to see what happens as Lazio are ‘pondering’ whether to sign Hoedt up early.
That remains to be seen, but there are ‘few doubts’ that his future will be with the biancoceleste, a club where it is clear he feels most at home.
