It’s fair to say Carles Gil’s loan move away from Aston Villa has pretty much been a football disaster so far. Leaving Villa in July for Deportivo La Coruna, the Spanish club have an option to buy and therefore it seemed unlikely Gil would be playing for the home side at Villa Park again.
In October, the Aston Villa player said: “I’m not happy, I’ve been playing little and I’ve been injured. But I’ll change that.”
Following those comments, Gil was then left out of Depor’s squad entirely due to a ‘technical decision’.
In all he’s managed just over 400 minutes since leaving Aston Villa, but things had been looking up a little lately. Since November 26th, Gil has made 5 appearances, and the exit of Ryan Babel allowed for a shake-up in Depor’s attacking structure.
However, the player has been stopped in his tracks by a knee injury. After being unable to train, further tests were carried out on Gil and La Opinion say he’s suffered a ‘sprained lateral collateral ligament in his left knee’.
There’s no timeframe from Depor for the Aston Villa player to return, they’ll have to see how things go, but this isn’t as bad as a cruciate injury.
It’s not the first injury Gil has suffered since moving from Aston Villa, and now Depor will surely be thinking twice, if they weren’t already, about using their signing clause.
