Everton were more than happy to sell Amadou Onana to Aston Villa this summer, as they simply didn’t want him anymore.
That’s according to Kevin Mirallas, via Walfoot, who says his remaining contacts at Everton have insisted they were delighted with the deal they got for the midfielder.
Mirallas has been speaking following another difficult international break for the Belgian national side in which they suffered back-to-back 1-0 losses to Italy and Israel.
Onana was not a part of the second defeat after suffering a muscle tear in his foot that is expected to keep him out for 2-3 weeks.
It was a disappointing moment for the 23-year-old, who has established himself as a key player for Aston Villa after joining from Everton in a €59.35m deal midway through July.
He’s also become one of the leaders in the current Belgium set up, often being vocal about their issues surrounding the squad and where they can improve.
This has seemingly irritated Mirallas, who believes the Aston Villa midfielder is in no position to be saying anything given Everton, who battled against relegation again last season, didn’t want him.
“Some do not perform as well for the Devils as for their club. When I hear Onana speak, I have the impression that he has already achieved extraordinary things with the national team,” he told La Capitale.
“He must not forget that Everton put him on the transfer market because they no longer wanted him.
“I still have a lot of connections at the club, and I can say that he is a player they no longer wanted, and they were very happy to have sold him for such a high price”
