Back on Friday, Aitor Karanka to Sporting was a big thing in Portugal. The local press reported the start of talks for the Nottingham Forest manager, and things were looking pretty positive.

Newspaper O Jogo claimed that Karanka was ‘seeking another challenge, outside of England’, and even though he wasn’t a priority for the Lions, he was a strong name in the race.

But since then, the rumour has gone completely silent.

Sporting are now close to signing the Dutch boss Marcel Keizer on a three-year deal, and Karanka’s name isn’t even mentioned anymore.

With all reporters focused on Keizer, we hope we can soon find a story with the reason why the negotiations with Karanka weren’t successful.

The only mention Nottingham Forest got in the local press this weekend was because of João Carvalho. After his good performance against Sheffield United, Noticias Ao Minuto brings a headline saying ‘The magic of João Carvalho which is enchanting England’.
