Super-agent Jorge Mendes is continuing to push Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves on Barcelona, but the internal debate over the Portugal midfielder continues at the Camp Nou.

That’s according to El Desmarque, who pick up on the rumour today amid reports Mendes had been discussing Neves with Barcelona again over the last week.

They report that the agent has ‘once again offered’ the Wolves star to those in charge at the Catalan giants, knowing that manager Xavi wants to add a midfielder and replacement for Sergio Busquets to his team.

On a board level Neves is a player who they seem to ‘like quite a lot’, seeing him as an ideal solution to replace veteran Busquets when the time comes.

Mendes has made it clear that the Wolves star ‘would be delighted’ with the move and has already told those in charge at Molineux that he has no intention of renewing his current deal, which expires in 2024.

That should make him available at a ‘very reasonable price’, with the feeling he could be available for around €25m or less.

That, though, is not enough to convince Xavi who does not see him as a very interesting option and would prefer the club to look at other options. Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi is at the top of his wish list.

The problem is that he has an asking price of €60m, a troublesome figure for Barcelona given their well reported financial problems.

It is because of those, and that figure, Mendes is seemingly trying to push his client, but a difference in opinion between Xavi and those above him is preventing them pushing seriously for the Wolves man.
