Intermediaries are ‘offering’ Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea to the leading and richest clubs in La Liga ahead of next summer.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say the Spaniard is lining up a return to his homeland should he not extend his stay at Old Trafford.
De Gea is technically out of contract at Manchester United next summer and is yet to sign an extension to add to his ten years stay at the club.
Manager Erik ten Hag recently revealed the club are yet to make a decision on the matter, hinting is not a subject which they are currently focused on with the January transfer window to come.
According to reports in the British media, the idea is to find a new goalkeeper for next season, which would leave De Gea looking for a new club.
But they are unlikely to be the only club in the mix and keeping note of the lack of movement from United, and the intermediaries are targeting the top teams in La Liga and chiefly, Sevilla and Betis.
However, the former have no plans to sign a first-choice goalkeeper next season as they have faith in Bono and Mark Dmitrovic. They would only consider De Gea if the Moroccan were to depart.
Thus, De Gea would not be a priority but it is a different case for Betis, who are considering a free transfer to bolster their goalkeeper department because Claudio Bravo or Rui Silva could depart.
They’ve already been in touch with Barcelona’s Iñaki Peña, but De Gea could be another option for them.
The big issue is that he doesn’t fit the profile because of his age and his wages, which, even if he were to take a big cut, would still be well above what the club are willing to invest.
Regardless, the intermediaries are working should De Gea leave Manchester United next summer, and they are one of the two clubs currently being targeted.
