Names such as Rafa Benítez and Adi Hütter have already been pushed by various medias, but another has now become available, and that’s Diego Martínez.
Earlier today, Mundo Deportivo had an article stating the Spaniard would be sacked by Espanyol on Monday, and that’s exactly what happened, with the club 17th in La Liga pulling the trigger and letting him go.
How does that affect Leicester? Well, the manager was once already considered by Leeds back when Marcelo Bielsa was in charge, and Martínez has never hidden his desire to try his luck in the Premier League.
Back in 2021, the man even moved to England to soak up English football, trying to also improve his linguistic skills along the way.He then returned to Spain with Espanyol, but that hasn’t worked out, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him try his luck on these shores again.
An interesting opportunity for Leicester should they take it under consideration, but it’s clear their main priority will be to get someone in quickly to ensure they don’t drop further away from safety, as they currently sit 19th in the Premier League after the 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace.
