Ever since José Mourinho was sacked from his role as Tottenham manager, the London club have been linked with a number of replacements.
Most of the supposed favourites, such as Julian Nagelsmann and Erik ten Hag, have either signed elsewhere or committed to their current clubs, leaving Spurs with a smaller pool than they initially started with.
Within that group of attainable managers, perhaps surprisingly, is Simone Inzaghi, who has worked wonders at Lazio over the past few years.
In charge since 2016, the 45-year-old has turned things around in Rome, but with his contract expiring at the end of the season and no renewal to talk about yet, rumours are rife.
Corriere dello Sport add fuel to the fire on Wednesday, stating the Premier League club have ‘come out’ for the Italian manager, before making it clear ‘it isn’t propaganda for Inzaghi’s use and consumption’ meaning it’s just not interest reported as he angles for a new contract.
In fact, ‘the interest is real’, although it has ‘not yet materialised through an offer’.
Inzaghi is said to be ‘perplexed’ at the situation with Lazio and the way it’s evolving, meaning that ‘at this point, he wouldn’t say no to Spurs’.
Underwhelmed by what the Serie A side have offered him so far, the manager just wants recognition for all he’s achieved at the club.
Perhaps that’s why the Tottenham interest is so enticing for him, as it would be a step in the right direction in his managerial career; a reward for his success, if you will.
