Earlier on Sunday, we covered a report from Portuguese newspaper A Bola listing the ‘spies’ who were present at Benfica’s match with Rio Ave.
Saturday’s game ended up in a 1-1 draw and whilst it wasn’t reported who Everton were watching, the reasonable assumption was Raul Jimenez.
Everton have been repeatedly linked with the Mexican striker this summer, and there’s even been claims over the past week of an offer being prepared at Goodison Park. With Ronald Koeman making it clear he wants to add upfront, the pieces have been falling into place.
Another Portuguese newspaper, Record, back up Everton’s trip to watch Benfica, but they add more. Insisting the trip was specifically for Jimenez, it’s stated AS Monaco were there with the same idea, with Record saying both clubs are keen on the signing.
Jimenez came on as a late substitute for Benfica and wasn’t able to do much to impress officials from either interested club.
