Belgium finally got everything together on Sunday and thrashed Estonia 8-1. Under Roberto Martinez, Belgium have been scoring more goals, and Liverpool’s Ragnar Klavan felt the full force of that at the weekend.
The 8-1 loss, and Klavan’s personal performance, was the last thing the defender needed and he sounds genuinely down about the result. Rather than Klavan giving Klopp as a reason to think about his team selection, the Estonian only served to underline why he’s not been playing for Liverpool.
Quoted by Estonia’s Delfi Sport, Klavan said: “I’m sad, disappointed and angry with myself… I’m very sorry.
“To represent your country, and have such a loss is very painful. I have failed the fans and the whole of Estonia.”
To explain just how bad Klavan thinks he performed, the footballer added: “One of the worst games I’ve ever had.”
Finally getting some minutes on the pitch away from Liverpool, Klavan scored an own goal and deflected another into the net, the second not going down as an OG.
