On Tuesday, the agent of Thanawat Suengchitthawon all but confirmed that his client would be signing for Leicester City.
It had been previously reported that the young midfielder was in talks to move to the Foxes from AS Nancy-Lorraine in Ligue 1, and Erick Noubissie told Eurosport the 20-year-old would be penning a three-year deal at the King Power Stadium.
The player has since confirmed it too, as he explained his decision to swap France for England in an interview with L’Est Républicain.
He said: “Yeah, all is sorted now. All that’s needed is the medical and to sign my contract. I’m going to sign with Leicester for three years. I’m really happy”.
The local newspaper then asked Suengchitthawon how the move came about.
He explained: “I had already had contact with Leicester three years ago, but I didn’t follow it up at the time. I wanted to finish my development with Nancy. I imagine Leicester continued to follow me, and since I was free at the end of this season, they took advantage of it by offering me a three-year professional deal”.
The player then revealed he would be first starting with the Foxes’ U23s, and it will be ‘up to him’ to prove to those in charge at the Premier League club that he’s good enough to play under Brendan Rodgers.
What ‘convinced’ him was the trust Leicester had in him by offering a three-year deal, which shows they ‘believe in him for the future’.
As for Nancy in all this, Suengchitthawon said he felt the club ‘didn’t count on him’ after they only offered him an extra year on an amateur deal.
