Despite a few years of success at Liverpool, Roberto Firmino is living a peculiar start to his season at the club. The striker is struggling to get starts in Jurgen Klopp’s side, and that seems to be even impacting his international career.

The Brazilian was brought on in the second half of the Champions League clash against Porto last night, and by scoring two goals in a short time, he’s shown he’s still competing for a place in the Reds’ attacking trio.

Firmino was interviewed by TNT Sports at the end of the match, and claimed that the fight for a spot in the team is part of the job.

“I’m at peace. It’s a healthy dispute,” Roberto Firmino told TNT Sports.

“Everyone who enters there tries to do their best and help Liverpool’s team. Whoever is entering is doing the job and is playing very well. So we have to continue. All with the intention of helping the team in search of victory.”

When Brazil called up their squad last week, it had been reported that Firmino could stay out of the list due to physical reasons. Now the striker has shown last night that he’s pretty much ready for action, and after staying out this time, he says he’s hopeful that manager Tite will give him new chances in the future.

“Yes, it’s always a pleasure, a pride to defend my country. And of course I want to be there always. I want to be in all call-ups.

“And I try to be working at my team to be well and automatically get that chance. And I want to keep working so that next time the chance comes and I can be present at the next call.”
