Former Inter Milan defender Andreas Brehme has backed the Italian side to overcome Liverpool when the two sides meet this evening.
Inter host Liverpool at the San Siro in the first of their round of 16 doubleheader tonight, but go into the game as the underdogs.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are very much the favourites given their performances this season, particularly from their ever-impressive front three.
There is a belief that the Serie A champions could provide a sterner test than is being anticipated, though, having continued to impress under Simone Inzaghi.
They currently sit second in the table and just a point behind league leaders AC Milan and are also the top scorers in Italy this year with 55 goals scored so far.
Brehme is one of those who are confident of that happening and has even made a bold prediction for when the two sides meet at Anfield.
“My heart is for Inter, for sure; I’m convinced they can beat Liverpool,” FC Inter News report him saying.
“I hope they win 1-0 or 2-0 because of their winning aggression. I am convinced that Inter will score at Anfield as well and that Liverpool will not be able to score three goals against Inter.
“The Nerazzurri must attack but also know how to wait for Liverpool’s great strikers.
“He’s (Inzaghi) doing well; he’s a great coach. He’s doing well; he’s a great coach. For him, for the team, for the fans, it’s going to be two great games to enjoy and win.”
