Former Inter Milan midfielder Giuseppe Bergomi has suggested Manchester City should be making a move for Napoli star Piotr Zielinski this summer.
The Poland international was again among the stars of the show for Napoli last season, playing a key role under the now-departed Gennaro Gattuso.
He racked up eight goals and 11 assists in 36 games in Serie A, the kind of form that will not have gone unnoticed outside of Italy.
The Polish star has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Liverpool having shown interest on several occasions.
Those links are likely to emerge again after the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum, while Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes recently revealed he’d love to play alongside him as well.
Bergomi believes that should change this summer, though, and Zielinski would be an ideal signing for the club to make.
“From my point of view, he lacks continuity throughout the meeting. Sometimes it seems to me that he is not at the heart of the game and lacks concentration,” he told Przeglad Sportowy when asked about the Napoli man.
“In this respect, he can improve. Despite this, he is an outstanding footballer who can play for all Serie A teams and more. For me, the Pole would be an ideal player for Manchester City.
“He fits perfectly with the game and with Guardiola’s ideas for football. Let’s look at how the players of the team led by the Spanish coach move on the pitch.
“Pep uses offensive midfielders who are capable of occupying space and running from one penalty area to the next. Zieliński does it in Naples.
“We should also remember that he is a master of technique, and Guardiola appreciates such players very much.”
