Marcel Franke signed for Norwich City in the 2017 summer transfer window, but things haven’t exactly gone to plan.
Out of the team by the time the January window came, he went out on loan to Dynamo Dresden for the second half of the season.
Returning to Norwich in the summer, he then went on loan again, this time for the full season. Signing for SV Darmstadt 98, there was a view to make the move permanent for around €1m this summer.
The defender has made 25 appearances in the Bundesliga 2 this season, and it’s quite possible the signing would have been made permanent.
However, Franke has put a stop to it himself.
Norwich have secured promotion to the Premier League, and Franke has stars in his eyes.
Bild quote the player as saying: “I will be back from the summer onwards. I would never forgive myself later if I had not tried to play in the Premier League. I want to do everything to make my dream come true.”
What Norwich City think about all of this isn’t reported, but if the player isn’t wanted then someone is going to have to break his heart soon.
Marcel Franke has a contract with the club until June 2020.
