Douglas Luiz left Aston Villa in the summer transfer window and his time at Juventus has been a disaster so far.
Currently injured, the Brazilian has had poor performances that have resulted in him giving away penalties and he also had his house burgled some weeks ago. He’s played only 312 minutes of football across all competitions.
There has been talk of a premature exit for the midfielder and a return to Aston Villa was mentioned as a possibility.
As the English club prepare to take on Juventus in the Champions League later today, Aston Villa sporting director Monchi has now spoken to Gazzetta dello Sport and was asked about Douglas Luiz.
He revealed that he would take the Brazilian back, praising his qualities.
Monchi is quoted as saying: “He’s a playmaker. Every ball that comes out of his feet makes sense. After his farewell we invested well, but I would always take Douglas back, for any club. He’s very strong.”
Speaking further about the 26-year-old, Monchi said: “He’s playing less than we would have expected, but we’re talking about a very strong player.
“Some players make their mark straight away, others need time. You need patience, but Douglas’ qualities are beyond discussion. Last year he played 90% of our games and was decisive.”
Douglas Luiz was indeed a key player for Unai Emery last season, playing 35 times in the Premier League and scoring nine times. In the 2022/23 season, he scored six times and got six assists in 37 league games.
It clearly shows that he doesn’t lack quality and he could yet come good for Juventus. He’s s faced issues off the pitch this season and perhaps the midfielder only needs more time to settle in Italy.
