Bruno Guimarães has hit the ground running since he arrived at Newcastle United from Lyon in January.

The Brazil international’s fine displays for the Magpies have helped him cement his place in the national team and he’s currently with Seleção at the Qatar World Cup.

AS have interviewed the Newcastle star and he starts by discussing how things are going well for him, both on and off the pitch.

The newspaper congratulated the midfielder and his partner for giving birth to a baby boy last month and then asked him how he has lived these past few weeks.

“I live a dream, both in my personal and professional life. Matteo is an angel and he came to bring even more happiness. My family is the foundation of everything,” he said.

Guimarães was at Brazilian side Athletico Paranaense during the 2018 World Cup. This time around, he is part of Tite’s squad and when detailing his experience, the 25-year-old opened up about his first year in England.

“I always knew that I could reach the national team and European football. I prepared a lot throughout my life for this to happen,” the player explained.

“Playing in the Premier League was a dream. It is a league that makes us always be at the highest level, both physically and mentally. I have landed on my feet, I look like a veteran despite having been there for less than a year.”

Guimarães has been instrumental in Newcastle’s fine form in 2022. Things have improved drastically for the Tyneside club this season as they are currently in third spot, ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Liverpool.

“The club’s project is huge. We have goals to meet and trained professionals in all areas. The club is evolving as a whole. I made the right decision signing for Newcastle,” he added.

“Definitely [captivated by the Champions League]. I was already able to play it with Lyon and it is a dream to be able to play it more times. We are working hard to return Newcastle to European competitions.”

The South American has also detailed the importance of Eddie Howe’s role in Newcastle’s progress.

“Eddie is fantastic. A deep football connoisseur. Gets the best out of each player. He and his entire coaching staff are the key to Newcastle’s current success,” Guimarães stressed.
