Timo Werner’s poor loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur has left RB Leipzig stuck, as they can no longer sell him to New York Red Bulls.

That’s according to BILD, who report that Leipzig are stuck with the forward after Tottenham decided against activating his purchase clause.

Werner has spent the last two season on loan at Tottenham but completely failed to impress and is now completely out of the picture due to injury.

BILD explain that Tottenham have waived their purchase option on him, they have no intention of getting him permanently. The problem, though, is that Leipzig don’t want him either.

His current €11m a year contract doesn’t represent his sporting performance, and they want it off the books this summer.

However, a move to sister club New York Red Bulls is now off the table. That had been the ideal option for everyone but has now been dismissed.

Instead, Leipzig need to find a new club for Werner and make his departure ‘financially more agreeable’. There is a feeling he won’t make that easy, though, as he’ll have no intention of forgoing a single cent from his current pay packet.

Things would have been very different if his loans at Tottenham had gone well, but instead they’ve avoided signing him permanently and now Leipzig are in the lurch.
