Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg has told Tipsbladet that it’s only Ange Postecoglou who can explain why the midfielder hasn’t been used much this season.

Having joined Spurs in 2020, the midfielder was a regular until the end of last season. The former Celtic manager’s arrival hasn’t favoured the 28-year-old as he lost prominence at the north London club.

The Denmark international has clocked in less than 1,200 minutes from 30 games and that includes only six league starts for Tottenham this season.

Højbjerg’s situation at the Premier League side hasn’t impacted his place in the national team squad and he’s been called up for all four international breaks this season.

He made his 75th appearance for Denmark against Faroe Islands on Tuesday. After the tie, the former Southampton man had a chat with Tipsbladet and other members of the Danish press.

On his situation at Tottenham, he said: “Of course I’m not happy with what’s going on at the club. It’s not a secret, but it’s not something I make a fuss about either.

“I can put my head on the pillow knowing that I’m giving it my all to show the coach that he should believe in me. This is not the case at the moment, and it’s the coach who has to explain why.”

Tottenham will host Luton Town in the Premier League on Saturday and ahead of that and given these comments, Postecoglou may be asked to explain Højbjerg’s situation.

The Dane’s deal lasts until 2025 and recent claims have stated Juventus have his name on their list for the summer window.
