French side Lens would gladly welcome back Raphael Varane to the club this summer once he leaves Manchester United.

That’s according to their manager Franck Haise, who has opened the door for the Manchester United defender to return to his former club.

Varane announced earlier this week that he would be leaving Manchester United at the end of the season when his current contract comes to an end.

It will being an end to a three year stay at Old Trafford after he initially joined Manchester United in a €40m deal from Real Madrid in August 2021.

His time in Manchester has not been as happy as his time in Madrid, where he was a key player in sides that won three La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues and numerous other trophies during his decade at the club.

Where he goes now remains to be seen, with the 31-year-old certainly not at a point where he needs to retire but also having suffered with numerous injury issues that have limited his playing time at Manchester United in recent year.

One option could be to return to Lens, the club where he started his career, and their current manager would be more than open to that.

“Obviously Raphaël Varane can interest me,” he said.

“By his qualities as a player, by his qualities as a leader, by his human qualities, by everything he represents and by everything he is still capable of giving, I am sure.

“After that the financial aspects don’t just depend on me, but if there was a possibility I would be the happiest coach.”
