Given Antonio Conte has taken over at Tottenham Hotspur, there’s a widespread assumption the club will be spending big in the coming windows, starting in the January market.

The manager has a record of demanding backing from clubs he’s worked at, and that was part of the reason he left Inter Milan after winning the Serie A title last season.

However, not everyone is convinced that Daniel Levy is ready to spend big, especially as soon as the January window.

Dusan Vlahovic is one of the players to have been linked heavily with Spurs. He was thought to be of interest over the summer, when Harry Kane was trying to force his way out of Tottenham, and the links have continued since.

Conte taking over at Spurs, and Vlahovic now seeming even less likely to renew with Fiorentina, has seen claims grow in recent days.

Gianluca Nani, an experienced director of sport and technical director, has sent a note of caution… he doesn’t think Tottenham will suddenly have a new big budget for the winter market.

Nani, who has worked for the likes of Brescia, West Ham, Watford and Reading, was asked about Vlahovic during an interview on Italian radio.

Fiorentinauno quote him as saying: “Go away in January? I don’t think so, as it is unlikely that there are some teams willing to spend that high in the winter transfer window. Could Tottenham make the effort? It is certainly a financially prosperous club, but I don’t think they have an extra budget to use for the next transfer window in January.”

Time will tell whether he’s correct or not.
