Following Liverpool’s historic 5-0 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp couldn’t hide his excitement with Roberto Firmino’s performance.

Despite most of the media turning the attention to Mohamed Salah, the boss highlighted the Brazilian claiming people will ‘write books’ about what he does in the false nine role.

Those quotes, of course, did the rounds in South America, and now website Globo Esporte brings Firmino’s response to the compliments made by Klopp.

The striker talked about how much he loves working with the German manager, claiming this way of playing is all thanks to him.

“Besides being an excellent coach, Klopp is a sensational guy, with a huge heart”, Roberto Firmino told Globo Esporte.

“And I can say that, if I’m a better player today, it’s a lot thanks to him. We’ve known each other since German football and, here at Liverpool, we’ve been together for six years. Today, I feel comfortable playing in more than one position, I have more freedom to move and also help with marking”.

Regarding him ‘sacrificing’ himself on the pitch in a way he’d score fewer goals than his attacking teammates, Firmino disagrees with it, claiming it’s just a way for everyone to help.

“I don’t see it that way. Each one has a very well-defined role on the field, it’s a team that has been playing together for some time and we know each other very well. We play for each other for Liverpool, and that makes a difference.”

Firmino also talked about the national team, since he wasn’t called up for the last international break. With Tite now calling up a new squad on Friday, he’s hopeful he can be back in the list.

“We always have to be good at the club to be remembered for the national team. And that’s what I look for here at Liverpool, in every training session and every game, to always be focused and taking the job seriously. And professor Tite knows me well, he knows I’m always ready to help as he needs”.
