Everton striker Youssef Chermiti has a big reason to celebrate, as he scored his first goal in months.

The 19-year-old, who’s out with Portugal’s U-21 squad for a couple of Euro Qualifiers, found the net in a match against the Faroe Islands on Thursday.

Outlet Mais Futebol today shares some of his quotes with the Portuguese media, and he showed how glad he is to score again.

“Yes, I couldn’t be happier and now we’re focused on the next game.”

“I was very well received. I already knew most of my team-mates: some of them played with me, others were my opponents. The staff, the kitmen, everyone welcomed me very well.”

Chermiti was even asked about Everton, but didn’t want to talk about the club, where he is used as a backup by Sean Dyche.

“Right now, I’m focused on the national team and I’m not thinking too much about the club.”

It was last summer that Everton signed Chermiti from Sporting on a €12.5m deal. It’s taking a little time for him to adapt to English football, though, as he only has 115 minutes on the pitch, in 13 appearances for the Toffees so far.

The only time he scored a goal with Everton’s shirt was in an EFL Trophy match, in a game against Mansfield Town back in November 2023.

As he fights to find his better form, perhaps this goal with the national team can help him achieve that.

He’s still a youngster, after all, and has a contract with the Toffees running until 2027.
