Swansea City showed the exit door to Luke Williams in February and later appointed Alan Sheehan as interim manager until the end of this season.
The Championship club have to appoint a new permanent manager next season and there have been claims they’re interested in Kim Hellberg.
At the weekend, Fotboll Skanalen reported Swansea City are interested in the Hammarby IF manager.
Hellberg was a guest on Fotboll Skanalen‘s podcast, Lundh, where he talked about the Swansea City links.
The 37-year-old joined the Swedish club in January 2024 and signed a contract until the end of 2026. They are now second in the Allsvenskan table, a point behind leaders AIK.
Hellberg’s work at Hammarby has seen him attract Swansea City’s interest. He insists the Welsh club or other team have to find an agreement with his club to secure his services.
“I am such a person basically. The club has to first accept a bid or accept the financial compensation offered. Either that it’s in a contract from the beginning [clause] and if not, they need to negotiate it,” he said.
“That is number one. I don’t ever want to be a person who fights my way out. I always want to respect the contracts I have signed.”
Fotboll Skanalen state the manager turned down opportunities from Norway and Denmark in the winter market. The Swede now suggests he would consider Swansea City if they were to make an approach.
“Then, for all players and coaches, there’s always a holistic perspective that has to be assessed in terms of whether you get the opportunity to do it,” Hellberg explained.
“It’s a very tough industry. I have a family, just like everyone else, to think about. How many chances will you get? These are things you should evaluate if you get the opportunity to do it.”
Swansea City have accumulated 60 points from 44 games and are currently 11th in the table.
