Despite Sydney van Hooijdonk heading to Norwich City on loan until the end of the season, the Dutch striker really wanted a move to Celtic, where he would have played under Brendan Rodgers.
That’s according to Quotidiano Sportivo, who cover the forward’s transfer to the Canaries, where they reveal he waited until the last minute for the Celtic Park club.
They say ‘he hoped for Celtic’, since he is a fan of the team, with his father Pierre having played there, even turning down a move to Wales in the process.
Cardiff wanted him, but he eventually ‘accepted the court’ of Norwich, who so happen to be the team where Celtic are signing a striker from, as they are welcoming Adam Idah, also wanted by Hellas Verona.
Still, Van Hooijdonk had hoped for a move to Scotland ‘until the last minute’, and we will have to now wait and see whether the move to Norfolk will result in a permanent transfer.
There is an option to buy the Dutchman for €5m in the deal struck with Bologna, with the Championship side also paying the player’s entire €400k wages.
