Xavi Simons left Barcelona for PSG in July 2019, presumably hoping he’d breakthrough more quickly with the French club, and almost certainly picking up a big pay rise in the process.
Last season he made a very brief Ligue 1 appearance for the Paris club, and also got some minutes in the Coup de France. He was on the bench for around a third of PSG’s Ligue 1 appearances, but this season he hasn’t been part of Mauricio Pochettino’s match-day squad once.
With a PSG contract expiring at the end of the season, there’s been talk of a return to Barcelona, something Sport cover on Tuesday. The Catalan newspaper explain that whilst the Blaugrana haven’t ruled out bringing the 18-year-old back to the club, they have other priorities in the market.
Barcelona don’t close the door on future negotiations to sign Simons as a free agent, however, there’s no effort being made right now in that regard.
Sport say the youngster is keen, stating ‘he’s ready to do it’ with regards to a Camp Nou return.
Mino Raiola represents the player and has pushed his name forward to Barcelona in other negotiations.
Despite all of that, there doesn’t seem a great deal of excitement about the potential signing.
