The Italian media today highlight quotes from a player who once refused a move to Manchester United.

That’s Davide Marsura, a 29-year-old winger who plays for second division side Ascoli.

The attacker was this week interviewed by his club’s channels (via Pianeta Serie B), and when recalling part of his career, he pointed out he rejected Manchester United in his early years.

“Manchester United, after watching me, wanted to buy me. I was sixteen and I refused, I didn’t feel ready mentally and physically. I have not regretted it,” said Marsura.

Marsura belonged to Serie A side Udinese at the time, so it does make sense that he had been watched by Manchester United.

The winger was many times loaned out by Udinese, and after those moves in and out of the club, he ended up making permanent transfers to Venezia, Carpi, Livorno, Pisa, Modena and finally Ascoli, who he joined in January.

With four goals and two assists in Serie B this season, he may claim not to regret moving to Manchester United at the time, but certainly will think how different his career could have been had he accepted that transfer. At least he managed to have a solid story in Italian football and still has playing years ahead of him.
