Romelu Lukaku would be unwise to return to Chelsea this summer and should instead wait to see where Antonio Conte ends up.

That’s according to journalist Marc Degryse, who says it would not be a smart move for the Belgian to go back to Stamford Bridge once his loan deal with Inter comes to an end.

Lukaku has been on loan with the Italian side this season after his disastrous return to Chelsea last year following two very successful years in Serie A.

He’s not been able to hit his old heights, though, with injuries limiting his time on the pitch and the impact he’s been able to have.

That means Inter are very unlikely to try and make his loan deal a permanent switch this summer, with him instead expected back at Chelsea, who will have to decide what to do with him themselves.

The suggestion has been that he could be given another chance to impress, particularly if Mauricio Pochettino ends up arriving as manager as expected.

Degryse believes that wouldn’t be a smart move for Lukaku to make, though, and instead he should wait for a former manager to sign him up.

“Going back to Chelsea? No, I wouldn’t,” he said.

“If Antonio Cont finds a club again, Lukaku will be the first one he wants. He’s expensive for Inter and he hasn’t been able to show his full potential this season due to injuries.”
