Signed on a free transfer when Arsène Wenger was still in charge, Yaya Sanogo arrived at Arsenal with a whole lot of expectations, such was his potential when at Auxerre.

Unfortunately for the now 29-year-old, injuries and a number of unsuccessful loans meant that his four years with the Gunners barely resulted in any appearances, which has carried out throughout his career, as he only has 151 professional games to his name despite making his debut aged 17 in 2010.

His last club were Huddersfield Town, with whom he spent just a few months, between February and July 2021, failing to score or assist in nine appearances, his last coming in May, after which he was released and allowed to find himself a new team.

The problem is that he hasn’t, currently training with FC Toulouse’s reserves in France, waiting for someone to take a punt on him, which has yet to happen.

The Arsenal flop spoke to La Dépêche du Midi on Monday, where he explained his situation and his hopes for the future.

He said: “Covid happened. I haven’t seen the list but there’s a lot players in this situation. Clubs have less money so they’re a bit more reticent, especially mid-season… I had contacts with certain clubs. Some didn’t interest me, others were thinking about it but didn’t follow up.

“It’s become very hard. I’ve a few contacts but they need to go somewhere… I’m ready, since I’m training with TFC, but I now need for someone to give me a chance.”

The ex-Arsenal striker revealed Clermont in Ligue 1 came knocking in January, but, once again, the fact he hadn’t played for so long remained the issue.

He added: “I told them that they just needed to call TFC to know my fitness levels. I was ready. It’s true that I lack game time, but I’m training every day.”
