After the excitement at Tottenham this week, and the Italian media falling over themselves to link most of Serie A’s stars with the London club, things are now taking a different turn for some.
Earlier today we covered comments from Gianluca Nani, a football director and well known personality in Italian football. He said he doesn’t believe Tottenham will have the budget to sign Dusan Vlahovic during the January window, and therefore the striker may stay at Fiorentina until the summer.
Now Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin has also talked down the idea of Spurs investing heavily in the coming windows, suggesting that instead the club will be looking towards free transfers.
Fabio Paratici has a record of securing such deals, and there are opportunities opening up in that regard around European football. Whether that’s the route that will please Conte is unknown, although the manager will likely have some players in mind.
Quoted by FCInter1908, Biasin said: “The names of De Vrij, Skriniar, Brozovic and Barella alongside Conte at Tottenham? That Tottenham can afford a PSG-style transfer market… absolutely not, they will use the transfer market, maybe with some zero parameters, yes, but I don’t imagine a market like that of the French here.”
Biasin also had something to say about Conte, suggesting he should have stayed at Inter Milan for the challenge there: “At the time, in the summer, he was not ready for Tottenham while now he is convinced by the work of Paratici. Conte chooses Tottenham, a legitimate choice and goes to a place where he can prove that he is better than those who were there before.
“From the Inter point of view: ‘I’m leaving Inter because maybe it won’t be competitive?’
“Conte could think about it a little more in my opinion, he could stay and follow his path. He didn’t want to see what he did last season questioned. Legitimate, but don’t say that this year’s team is not competitive.”
