Borussia Dortmund made a huge deal of Jadon Sancho’s return to the club, when he arrived in January on loan from Manchester United.
The attacker had failed to impressed since his much hyped move to Old Trafford, and then managed to fall out with Erik ten Hag. There was no way back for Sancho and Dortmund provided him with the opportunity to get on the pitch again.
Across 14 Bundesliga matches, the 24-year-old managed two goals and three assists. A good performance in the first leg of Dortmund’s Champions League semi against PSG saw Sancho receive widespread praise and there was hope Manchester United may even be able to sell him to the Bundesliga side.
Borussia Dortmund ‘would love to keep him’, but not to the extent that they’d actually buy him. Indeed, it’s not solely about money, with BVB having a budget worth around €75m this summer.
Sancho isn’t their priority, with a striker needed and a replacement for Mats Hummels. That’s where the weight of the transfer budget will, not to Manchester United, and therefore the only way for him to stay is a new loan.
Dortmund are going to put that suggestion to the Red Devils in talks, but it’s thought to be unlikely that they’d agree.
