Tottenham’s success this season is because the side are no long focused on one star man but the collective, thanks to Harry Kane’s move to Bayern Munich.

That’s according to journalist Florian Schmidt Sommerfeld, who has shared his ‘pretty absurd’ reason for what he thinks is the ‘secret’ to Tottenham’s success so far.

The Sky Sports Germany journalist was busy watching Tottenham take on Chelsea on Monday evening, a game which saw Ange Postecoglou’s side pick up their first defeat of the season, losing 4-1 to their fierce rivals.

That result was not entirely a fair reflection of the game, though, with red cards for Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie and an injury to Micky van de Ven naturally putting Tottenham at a major disadvantage.

Tottenham being two men down certainly worked out in Chelsea’s favour in the end as they dealt the first major blow to what has otherwise been a stunning start to the season for Spurs and Postecoglou.

Whether it ends up affecting them moving forwards remains to be seen but Sommerfeld doesn’t think it will as he’s identified the ‘secret’ behind their revival.

“It all sounds pretty absurd when you see the raw result of Tottenham against Chelsea – 1:4 but this game makes me even more sure that in Tottenham something really big is growing,” he wrote in his column, titled ‘My absurd Tottenham feeling’.

“I was in London recently. My taxi driver happened to be an ardent Tottenham fan. He said the run reminded him of the 2019 Champions League season, in which Spurs reached the final. Harry Kane was injured, now the big star is gone and everyone is playing much better.

“That’s the secret at Tottenham. It was incredible to see again against Chelsea how the players trust their coach in the most difficult circumstances.

“They find solutions and are willing to run for each other. I’m curious to see what the reaction to this performance will be in the next game. Romero and Udogie have to be replaced first, hopefully the two injured ones won’t last long – but Tottenham is something to be reckoned with.”
