As Fulham continue with their pursuit for AS Roma’s Justin Kluivert, we get to see a positive update on this chase coming from the Portuguese media today.
Before Fulham fans start wondering why the news would come from Lisbon, that’s because Benfica and Sporting are both interested in the attacker as well, and according to Record, the city rivals both made approaches for his transfer.
It turns out, however, that Kluivert isn’t keen on moving to Portugal, as he’d rather make a switch to England. And that’s where Fulham are brought in.
Record writes the player has an offer from the Craven Cottage side, where he’d meet Portuguese manager Marco Silva, and that’s ‘the one that pleases him most’.
The newspaper claims Kluivert currently has a contract where he makes €2.5m net per year, and would take a pay cut in case he’s benefits from bonuses or a long term deal. Still, big numbers like that are unaffordable for Benfica or Sporting, who’d need to pay nearly €5m with taxes included.
The report claims Kluivert knows he’s not in José Mourinho’s plans, and even though Roma initially demanded €15m for his sale, that price could still go down depending on bonuses or a percentage of a future transfer.
In short, Benfica and Sporting would really like to sign the player, but at this stage, he’s a lot likelier to make a move to Fulham.
