With Gazzetta dello Sport monopolising the Riyad Mahrez news, most of the updates were very Roma heavy, and it looked like things were going well for the Serie A side.

After all, despite there being a threat, no Premier League side have come forward for the Leicester star, leaving Monchi with a clear run for the Algeria international.

Of course, the Italian club still need to meet the Foxes’ demands, but there was a quiet confidence that could be done in Thursday’s edition.

However, according to Foot Mercato in France, Rome still remains the player’s second destination of choice behind Arsenal.

The French website report a source close to Mahrez told them Roma were yet to make a second offer (which Gazzetta say is coming in the next couple of weeks), and that it would be difficult for them to convince Leicester.

Furthermore, the forward is said to have decided he would prefer to team up with Arsène Wenger at the Emirates, even if the French manager would prefer to bolster his squad with Thomas Lemar, if possible.

If this is true, then we’ve got a long way to go, folks.
