Just one day ago, Gazzetta dello Sport had a rather lengthy article, which we covered in detail, about the Riyad Mahrez to Roma situation.
To make a long story short, the Serie A side weren’t all that worried about losing out on their target for a variety of reasons, including Monchi’s great relationship with Leicester City’s Eduardo Macia, the Premier League club’s head of recruitment.
Down his end, the player was said to be calm about the whole thing, trusting both sides to eventually come to an agreement, having himself already said yes to a broad outline of his potential personal terms.
Well, on Thursday, Il Tempo seem to think Roma have worked out how they can get Leicester to say yes to an offer inferior to their €40m valuation of the Algeria international, and that’s through ‘easy bonuses’.
This would allow the Serie A side to save some money this summer, and perhaps sell one or two extra fringe players to fund the remainder of the fee when Mahrez triggers the bonuses, most likely through scoring goals or making a certain number of appearances.
Monchi is said to be working hard on trying to find a solution that pleases all parties, and, by the sound of things, he’s getting closer by the day.
