Set to face Chelsea in a friendly on Tuesday evening, Lyon already had their squad sorted and were ready to go.

However, Newcastle’s interest in Myziane Maolida has interrupted said plans, and they’ve had to make a last minute change by leaving the forward behind, and bringing Amine Gouiri instead.

According to RMC Sport, Lyon decided it was best to let the 19-year-old try and sort out his future back in France rather than take him to England for a game he might not be particularly interested in if his head was already elsewhere.

As was reported last week, Newcastle United are one of a handful of clubs in talks with the young forward, who is looking for game time Lyon haven’t been able to give him as of yet.

The French club have asked Maolida to sort out his situation one way or another, and with just a few days left in the English transfer window, they’ll get their answer shortly.

No price has been mentioned in any of the reports we’ve seen, but we estimated last time the Ligue 1 side would ask for more than the €8m Betis were ready to offer previously.

So, somewhere around €10m or so?

It’s worth pointing out that last time Lyon sold one of their attacking talents, they charged AS Monaco £18m for Willem Geubbels, so they’re not afraid to put their foot down if they want to.
