Mateo Kovacic has been clear this summer about his desire to leave Real Madrid to be a more important player elsewhere.

The La Liga club had been reluctant to sanction a transfer, but the Croatian international wouldn’t budge from his stance.

That’s led to ‘total war’ this week from the midfielder, reported Tuesday’s edition of the Spanish newspaper. There’s even been claims he’s refused to fully train with his teammates, trying to force a transfer.

In an online update they now say Kovacic is ‘about to be loaned’ to Chelsea and the deal will be announced in the next few hours.

The footballer is ‘one step away’ from Chelsea and will travel to London to begin his new adventure.

Real Madrid are happy with the situation because it gives them control over Kovacic’s future and they’re not losing the player for good. At this stage there’s no reporting on loan fee or any clauses in the contract.

Given the way Marca present the story a buying clause is unlikely unless it’s at a very high figure, with Real Madrid previously asking for €80m to complete a transfer this summer.
