Former West Brom midfielder Borja Valero is still amazed by the support the fans had for the club during his time there.

In an interview with the Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport this week, the player was asked about the difference of football in Italy, England and Spain.

The 31-year-old could have mentioned the difference in the game style, as most footballers do, but he preferred to recall the support instead.
“The support in England is wonderful. Think that when I played for West Brom we were relegated, and at the end of the last game they wanted us to do a walk around the pitch for applause. Here or in Spain it would never have happened. In short, we need a mix, because in Liga football is more elegant, while in Serie A it is more tactical.”

Some of the interview even had some political comments, and when mentioning World War I, Valero brought up the Brexit theme:

Capturar“Maybe after so many years of democracy, it seems that people are getting tired. With the due differences, I think it’s returning to the mood that was in Europe at that time. Think of the Brexit: now all seem to want to get away from the European Union, but the chaos doesn’t help anyone.”

Valero joined West Brom from RCD Mallorca in 2008. After the relegation in 2009, he was sent back to the Spanish side on a one-year loan. When he returned, he sent to Villarreal on another season-long loan, signing for a permanent move at the end of it.

The footballer is currently playing for Fiorentina, where he’s been since 2012, having made 189 appearances for the club already.
