Former Poland manager Tomasz Hajto has questioned Mateusz Klich’s place in the Polish national team following their defeat to Portugal on Thursday night.
The Leeds United midfielder started his third consecutive game for Poland during his side’s 3-2 defeat.
Eurosport.interia.pl have reported on comments Hajto made over Klich after he called for Sampdoria midfielder Karol Linetti to be selected ahead of him: “He did not break through at Wolfsburg, but when he was loaned, he rebuilt a little. He returned to Wolfsburg and gave an interview, regretting that he could not adapt to Magath’s training.
“He went to Kaiserslautern for two matches and could not make it again, he went to the Netherlands, he played a bit again, but at Zwolle. It’s such a club that if I lost five kilos, I would be able to fit in now.”
Klich was recalled to the Poland national set up last month following his impressive start to the season with Leeds United. The UEFA Nations League clash with Italy was his first game in four years for his country.
The Leeds United kept his place in the loss to Portugal but after picking up a yellow card he will miss Sunday’s game against Italy.
Hajto may now get his wish with the possibility of Linetti replacing Klich in central midfield.
