Vincent Kompany arrived at Burnley last summer and has already helped his side secure a promotion back to the Premier League.
He looked at Belgium to start the rebuild at Turf Moor, and was keen to sign Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen for Burnley last summer, but a move never took shape.
The 20-year-old has become one of the rising stars in the Jupiler Pro League since he became the club’s first choice stopper. He hasn’t conceded a goal in the last five matches.
Het Laatste Nieuws have a report on the Dutchman, where they highlight several topics, including how he has improved at Anderlecht and why the Clarets’ failed to sign him last summer.
Earlier this year, claims from Belgium stated Kompany’s side are expected to return for Verbruggen in the next window. His deal expires in 2025 and HLN state his suitors cannot take him away from Anderlecht for ‘less than €10m’ in the summer.
In other words, Burnley would have to offer at least twice of what they proposed to sign him last summer.
On Verbruggen’s future, Anderlecht Brian Riemer manager said: “Everything in life is for sale. There are only a few clubs in the world that don’t have to sell. But in my eyes Bart is part of our future. For me he is the best goalkeeper in the Belgian league, I wouldn’t trade him in for anyone. He hasn’t even played that much yet, so there is still a long way to go.”
