Juventus’ Weston McKennie had a short spell on loan at Leeds United during the second half of the 2022/23 season. The Serie A side had hoped for the Whites to buy him, but that didn’t happen because of their relegation to the Championship.
The midfielder made 19 Premier League appearances for Leeds and wasn’t able to impress during his time at Elland Road.
McKennie had earlier talked about letting Leeds down and about seeking for redemption after a poor spell with the English club. He wasn’t pleased to have disappointed those Leeds fans who had believed in him.
His father, John McKennie, has now given an interview to Tutto Juve, during which he was asked about Weston’s time in England.
They pointed out Weston’s struggles at Elland Road and asked his father how it helped his son grow.
“He didn’t see it as a negative experience, like us, but as an opportunity for growth,” he said.
The American returned to the Serie A side in the summer of 2023 and has been with them since then. The Old Lady wanted to get rid of him a year ago, but their efforts weren’t successful.
When asked if his son made the right decision by staying at Juve in 2023, John explained: “Nothing is impossible with the support of the family, now just think about the present and doing well with the team.”
