Earlier on Thursday, at least European time, Gustavo Scarpa played his final game for Palmeiras before heading to Nottingham Forest on a free.
The season in Brazil is now over, and while he will not join the Tricky Trees until January, the deal is closed and he will try and help Steve Cooper during the second half of the campaign.
Scarpa ended his time in Brazil in the best manner possible, helping his side beat América MG and scoring the equaliser in a 2-1 win before Murilo sealed the win in the 81st minute.
The soon-to-be Nottingham Forest player gave an interview to the Brazilian media following the game, where he was asked various questions, including one about what he wouldn’t miss at Palmeiras.
He said, relayed by UOL: “I’m going to leave this one, about what I won’t miss here. I can’t think of anything.”
He added: “I confess that today was a very pleasant surprise for me, and to receive this affection from the stadium. My farewell was a surreal thing, which I didn’t expect. I thought I wouldn’t live that.”
Scarpa was taken off in the 79th minute, which led to some members of the crowd crying, and the midfielder was hugged by many of his teammates and even some of the opposing players as he walked off the field.
He was then embraced by some of the staff, but UOL then add that ‘he hit the Palmeiras badge, pointed to the crowd and ended his story on the Palestra field, running to the locker room, alone’.
Why did he do that? He explained: “The emotions started to get… I can’t even explain it. I was very agitated. It’s over, but it ended in the best possible way. It was the farewell of dreams.”
Now, he will prepare his departure for England, where he will move to Nottingham Forest in hope of helping them turn their season around, as the City Ground side currently sit bottom of the Premier League with 10 points from 14 games, three points off 17th placed AFC Bournemouth.
