Flamengo’s Gonzalo Plata has been recently linked with a move to West Ham United in the winter market.
These claims have reached the Brazilian press, specifically RTI Esporte, who give their take on this case.
They state West Ham deny showing any interest to sign the 24-year-old in January. His name is ‘not even evaluated’ by the Hammers’ officials.
RTI Esporte got in touch with West Ham sporting director Mark Noble via WhatsApp for an update. He has stated the latest claims are “fake”, indicating Julen Lopetegui’s side aren’t looking at the winger.
The outlet also contacted a Flamengo leader, who claims there’s been no approach from any club or the player’s agent. The unnamed official also insists his side have no plans to sell Plata in the next window.
Plata previously had spells in Europe at Sporting and Real Valladolid. His entourage claims he wants to continue at Flamengo and is ‘unlikely’ to return to Europe amid West Ham links.
The Ecuador international’s contract lasts 2029 and the report states it includes a €80m release clause.
Plata joined Flamengo in August and clocked in 613 minutes from 13 games, managing three goals and an assist in the process.
