It’s been nearly a month since Tottenham Hotspur announced the signing of Ivan Perisic on a free deal, but the move continues to get a few comments in the media.

Today, it’s former striker Ivica Olic, now coach of the Croatian national team, who had a word about his former teammate’s decision to go to London this summer.

The official claimed to be ‘surprised’ with Perisic joining Tottenham, as he expected the winger to renew his contract with Inter Milan this summer.

“Honestly, I was a little surprised that he went to England: He had a great season at Inter and I expected him to stay,” Olic told Perform (via FC Inter News).

“Ivan has played in Germany, France and Italy in recent years. But we said that England have always been a weak point for him. It’s clear that he sees the Premier League as a challenge.”

Olic also talked about Perisic’s adaptation to the Premier League, claiming the player shouldn’t have any major difficulties to do well in English football, especially with Antonio Conte in charge.

“He knows the manager, his technical staff and his game system. I don’t think he will have problems adapting to the new league.”

Perisic had been linked to Premier League clubs for a long time, and the fact he became a free agent this summer was crucial for his move to Tottenham, as Inter Milan had been playing hard to keep him in the past few summers.

In his last season with the Nerazzurri, the winger had 10 goals and nine assists in 49 appearances.
