Manchester United have set a fee of £35-40m for Scott McTominay as Bayern Munich remain ‘very interested’ in securing his signature.
That’s according to BILD, who say the German champions want to ‘get things moving’ on their long hunt for a midfielder and there is an ‘exciting indication’ that the man they’ll get is Manchester United’s McTominay.
The newspaper explains that Bayern are ‘very interested’ in the 26-year-old and would be happy to take him on loan or on a permanent basis before the end of the window.
The indication is that they can’t, or would prefer not to, spend such a figure, but Manchester United ‘would be willing’ to negotiate and are already eyeing up Pierre-Emil Höjbjerg as a replacement.
Any move for McTominay would be something of a ‘transfer turnaround’ for Bayern, particularly after Uli Hoeneß recently insisted the squad is top class.
That suggested there would be no new incomings, but McTominay would solve another problem for Bayern and help cover a potential departure for Benjamin Pavard.
The idea is that if McTominay were to arrive from Manchester United, it would allow fellow midfielder Konrad Laimer to cover at right-back and not leave a hole in the midfield.
That’s an idea for the future, though, at the moment it seems there is a disparity on asking price that would need to be resolved before McTominay ends up at the Allianz Arena.
